Sierra Forest Legacy (formerly Sierra Nevada Forest Protection Campaign) published their first newsletter "Sierra Forest Voice" on May 11, 2007.
Issues in this first edition include the organizations makeover, Capital Hill Report, and analysis of forest plans across the mountain range.
According to Executive Director Craig Thomas, “Much has changed since 1996 when we launched our initial efforts to protect and enhance the eleven and a half million acres of national forest land in the Sierra Nevada. Our mission has grown along with our membership, and it is time to change the organization’s name to match our vision for the future.”
Sierra Forest Legacy will continue to support forest conservation and ecological restoration in California's national forests. In addition, it is expanding its partnerships with local communities to ensure fire safety for local residents through its Community Forest Program, Community Fire Wise trainings, and six-county Fire Safe Council participation. Additional recent campaign activities include launching sustainable small wood and biomass utilization programs throughout the Sierra, and efforts to develop collaborative solutions on smoke management to support the use of prescribed fire and wildland use fire.
