Protecting Ranchland in Mariposa County

Mariposa County should be proud of its new 20-year growth plan that will protect 425,000 acres of ranchland, according to a diverse group of community leaders. After an arduous, five-year process, a new Mariposa County General Plan, adopted December 18, achieves what the county's citizens prize most: protection of the county's rural character by preserving its beautiful and productive farmland and natural landscapes.

An article by the Sierra Nevada Alliance on Yubanet outlines details of the plan.

Save every acre we can

That is so great to hear! In the plan does it talk about getting new ranchers or the next generation interested in using that land. I think that will ultimately be the key to stopping the spread of development over prime ag land. I have heard some land proposals ear-marking land for young ranchers at rock bottom prices. I think such solutions are the ultimate goal to giving open minded environmental concious young people control over the next generation of meat production. Chris Kerston

Nice to hear ! (Saul Sac State student)

It is nice to hear story like this as that much land will protected by its 20 year growth plan. This is a very important issue that society needs to really be focus on as our farmlands and natural landscapes are dissapearing
